Education, Education, Education - s07 ep04

Doc and Louisa are at Dr. Timoney’s for another therapy session. By watching their behavior, if one didn’t know better, you’d think the Doc and Louisa just met. But their ‘homework’ proves to be an icebreaker—no matter how awkward (and boy is it awkward). Whatever it is…it’s working.

Bert’s been asked to move his camper van because there are complaints: he's ruining the 'view.' So he takes the opportunity to begin a(nother) new business venture--a still. A whiskey still. He hasn’t mentioned it to a soul. Al suspects something is up—he knows his dad better than anyone. But Bert’s not talking. He’s just breaking into his old restaurant and ‘borrowing’ a few things—things that probably wouldn’t be repossessed anyway.

Peter Cronk wants to shadow the Doc (and drive Morwenna mad in the meantime). He says he's interested in becoming a doctor--but has other ideas at the moment. He’s quite the inquisitive teenager, especially about pharmaceuticals, and little by little the Doc becomes suspicious.

And, finally, three little words:

Clive. Is. Back.

Flirty (and unenforced) speed traps, happy depression, thumb hooks, and camper chairs. We’re rounding the halfway point so grab a few Curly Wurlys, tell your family to leave you alone, kick back and enjoy!

It's Good to Talk - s07 ep03

The Doc is still living in the abysmal apartment but things might be looking up: Mrs. Tishell has offered to drop around the ol’ casserole since, you know, they’re both in the same boat—abandoned and alone. But she doesn’t feel like that about him anymore so it’s okay. Because they're really soul mates in/from another lifetime. Just not this one.

Louisa meets with Dr. Timoney for the first time. She’s feeling a bit awkward that Dr. Timoney is so young. How could she possibly have enough experience to help Martin…err...them. Thankfully, Ruth helps put her at ease. And thanks to an emergency at Radio Portwenn, Louisa gets the reminder she desperately needed.

Bert. He’s having a tough time. Things were already bad with the restaurant but a letter comes that changes everything. It’s time for a new perspective. A new life. And a new house...or rather, camper van.

If Al will only see things through his eyes.

Janice gets locked out of her apartment while James Henry is inside enjoying her makeup counter. Penhale—well, Becky, actually—saves the day. He’s got it bad for Janice, but he’s Joe Penhale so his foot ends up in his mouth almost every time he opens it.

Reverse psychology, ‘sea’ fish, breaking and entering, face plants, and sad Al’s many non-girlfriends. Portwenn men are having a rough week, here’s hoping Bert’s flask will set them right again.

Enjoy It’s Good to Talk!

The Shock of the New - s07 ep02

The Doc decides he needs to be open with Dr. Timoney if he’s serious about making changes. And just in time, too, since Louisa walks through the surgery door in the middle of the day with James Henry. She’s back and the whole town, which seems to be in the waiting room at the time of her arrival, is just as shocked as the Doc.

Portwenn Fishing Holidays receives its first guests: a couple desperate for a break and…a field mouse. But that’s just the start of Al’s problems. Just when he thinks it can’t get worse, it does. Much much worse. With every passing hour.

Bert has an idea to improve business: Portwenn’s version of Groupon. A two-for-one lobster dinner at Large Restaurant.
Unfortunately, Bert couldn’t channel the Big JC and multiply the only 2 lobsters Gus could catch.
And if Becky hadn’t let the lobsters swim in tap water…well, he may have just been able to salvage the night.

Brain arthritis, licking a gift-sausage in the mouth, medical-grade stun guns, and blood. Lots and lots of blood.

Tilt your head back, folks…it’s time for The Shock of the New. Enjoy!

Rescue Me - s07 ep01

Season 7 begins… the Doc is without Louisa and James Henry. Again. But this time is different. He knows things must change—he must change—so he sets out to make that happen. Of course, with a little help from Aunt Ruth who refuses to take him on as a patient (as if!). And with the referral she gives him, the Doc may have met his match.

Al is desperately trying to finish renovations at the farmhouse so they can finally start taking reservations for Portwenn's newest B&B, Salmon Enchartered Place Portwenn Fishing Holidays. Aunt Ruth questions if it will ever be finished…and Al’s not sure she’s wrong. He is trying, though, without any help from his friends. Maybe.

It’s the anniversary of the Moon Ray Rescue. Unfortunately, the star of the rescue revival is also Al’s contractor—so nothing’s gettin’ done at the B&B until the local news crew leaves. But there’s a surprise in the end… and it may mean that Morwenna is headed to medical school. Or maybe not.

Have we told you it’s anniversary of the Moon Ray Rescue?

Shrinks, ‘beachy’ formal wear, male pregnancy, crash landings, and police photobombs. Oh, and did we mention the Moon Ray?

Welcome to Series 7…you may need your own life preserver.

INTERVIEW: Ian McNeice | Bert Large

Who doesn’t love Bert Large?

What a pleasure it was to hang out with Ian. And the stories he tells… well, we could have listened for hours.

Especially the one about how the cast found out about the new seasons that would be commissioned by ITV. To have been a fly on the wall for that moment…

It’s funny, listening back to this a week later, it’s such a mellow interview. Ian had just arrived from the airport so we wanted to be sure he could simply kick back and have a chat with us. (Thank goodness Linda had some tea tucked away at her place!) He definitely set the relaxed tone. Ian’s a pro. He knows how to do these interviews so well.

We talked about working with Joe Absolom, John Marquez, and Martin; about getting that accent just right; his hopes for the next season and so much more.

Another BIG THANK YOU to Ian for taking time out of his VERY busy visit to LA to talk to Rock the Doc. We hope to have Ian on the show again…maybe next time with Joe? How much fun would that be?!

Enjoy the interview with Portwenn's favorite entrepreneur!

*SPOILER ALERT* There are a few references to Series 7 in this interview.

INTERVIEW: Martin Clunes & Philippa Braithwaite Clunes

With a big (BIG), huge (HUGE) first episode.

Here’s the scene…

It was a bit of a balmy January day in Los Angeles. We tried to make normal conversation in the car on the way to our secret location but it was pointless. We could think of nothing else but 1) is this the right day and 2) will our recording equipment really work when we needed it the most. (Okay, there were other things we stressed thought about, too, but these were the only ones we could verbalize.)

We arrived and informed the hosts that we would be waiting for them near the door.

A few minutes later -- I could see him walking down the hall directly toward us.

“Oh god,” I thought. “Here we go…”

Ladies and Gentlemen, we give you our interview with…

Martin Clunes and Philippa Braithwaite.

We hope you’ll enjoy this episode as much as we loved recording it.

A big (BIG), huge (HUGE) THANK YOU to Martin and Philippa. You honestly could not have been more pleasant, more fun to interview and hang out with. We were, as they say, quite chuffed. ;)

To LindaG who never stopped believing this was possible from day one and never stopped knocking on that door…you did it!

And thank goodness the recording equipment worked (thanks for the assist, Martin!) because we’re still not quite sure this interview actually happened…

Welcome to Series 7, everyone. Cheers!
