"Erotomania" - Season 02, Episode 08

- by Karen Haviley

Erotomania:
also known as de Clérambault's syndrome after the French psychiatrist Gaëtan Gatian de Clérambault

definition (Wikipedia):  a type of delusion in which the affected person believes that another person, usually a stranger, high-status or famous person, is in love with him or her.

Wow. It finally happens. The Doc and Louisa clear out the obstacles (read: Danny), let the wine flow and tell all. He finally tells her how he feels in the most genuine and succinct way he can. As Louisa is about to jump over the table to get to him after hearing his true confession (who wouldn’t?!), the heavens open, angels sing, a bright light shines down around them and... he passes out. (Damn, those writers are good!)

Speaking of not quite getting there... PC Mark decides he needs to have some Life Insurance when he gets married, so he needs a complete physical. And it’s a good thing because he’s feeling over the moon about Julie’s news -- until he finds out the results of his lab work. Julie has been telling stories. Lots and lots of them.

Mrs. Tishell turns a corner by finally removing her emotional crutch (a.k.a. her neck brace), only to find out she actually does need it.

Thankfully, we get to see Auntie Joan again because there's no one better to give the Doc a push to get his head out of his... well, you get the idea... and go after Louisa.

But we’re reminded of the reality of our dear Doc at the end, when he lovingly looks at Louisa as she’s telling him she loves him... and informs her that she may in fact be suffering from, you guessed it <sigh>, Erotomania

Old habits die hard at the end of Season 2.

So have a listen and raise a glass for... Erotomania...

TRIVIA QUESTION: What's the name of the woman (character's name) the Doc sees at the end of the show that asks him if he's been drinking?
Hint: She was in a previous episode!

"Out of the Woods" - Season 02, Episode 07

- by Karen Haviley

Who’s up for adventure? Then this is your lucky week on Doc Martin!

Since PC Mark is getting married a Stag party is in order. But when he asks the Doc to be his Best Man... you can guess what happens. The Doc says no and our boy Al is up on deck. How could dear, sweet Al turn him down? He can't.

Mark decides he wants his bachelor party to be a camping trip. A good idea except he and Al get lost and have an experience that cuts the overnight trip to a 3-hour adventure. And, no, it's not wrestling...

Meanwhile, Al is trying to move into his own place and Bert decides to lend a hand fixing the fixer-upper while Al is camping with Mark. Well.. he meant well. Unfortunately, his attempts to fix anything means Al’s not moving anytime soon.

The Doc and Louisa seem to be flirting with their emotions for each other again. Nothing like a crazy afternoon in the woods with adders, poacher traps and Stuart to bring two people together.

Yes, you heard correctly! Our friend Stuart makes another appearance. Oh how we’ve missed him! Sadly, Anthony couldn’t make it. Stuart’s in prime form in this episode, too. Does it seem like he and the Doc become more comfortable with each other at every meeting?

To top it off, the local kids in town are playing a new game with weever (fish) stingers. Is it painful? Yes. Do they stop before someone almost dies? No.

Buckle up Doc Martin fans... this is Out of the Woods...
Enjoy!

TRIVIA QUESTION:
What's the name of the hotel Bert was referring to when he said they could fix up Al's new place and make it look new?

"The Family Way" - Season 02, Episode 06

- by Karen Haviley

The Doc's parents come to visit. It doesn't sound like much but, whew. You thought YOUR family had issues! This episode definitely explains a lot about our dear Doc, doesn't it? The Doc and Auntie Joan are completely taken by surprise at the request of the Doc's parents. His dad in particular. When all is revealed, in the end, the Doc finally sets things right. And one of the right things is to kick his parents out of his house.
Believe me, someone had to do it.

PC Mark Mylow has fallen big time for Julie. He's not waiting around anymore either -- it's time to pop the question. Will he or won't he? It's probably disaster either way. Poor guy.

The Doc meets up with Danny a few times in this episode. Of course none of them good situations, but one leading to an eventual awakening for one of them. But will it be for Danny, the Doc... or Louisa?

A possible engagement, a "surprise" baby on the way, the Doc punching a hole in Danny's chest, annoying parents... and a talent show with Bert dressed up as "Gino" the ventriloquist....
(BONUS PHOTO! Had to include it... God, does it get any better?!)

Yes, it's true. The fun never ends in Portwenn and, yes, we all want to move there.

For now, gather around and enjoy The Family Way....

"Always on My Mind" - Season 02, Episode 05

- by Karen Haviley

And this week in Portwenn...

The Doc gets a call from Phil Pratt about his wife not being able to get out of bed. He shows up and while he’s berating Phil’s wife, Helen, about why she should be coming into the surgery and not waiting until she’s feeling so poorly that she can’t get out of bed... she has a stroke and dies. Unfortunately, Auntie Joan, who is a neighbor and good friend of Helen’s, walks in to witness it happen.
The woman’s husband doesn’t take it so well, as you can imagine. Phil orders the Doc and Joan out of his house. But that’s not enough. Phil thinks Joan is aware of the situation between he and his late wife, so he acts out by taunting and threatening her. She does know about his affair. However, only at the end when his lover shows up, after Phil is somewhat impaled by a farming device, do we understand his desperate angst to keep his affair secret.

The Doc is on yet another call at the school to remove a bone from a boys throat and he meets the new teacher, Tricia, who’s definitely a bit off. She needs some medical help of her own for a condition that’s developed on her hands but the Doc demands that she make an appointment at the surgery. While Louisa and Doc are shouting at each other (once again) the Doc makes a comment most revealing about why he thinks they can’t have normal conversation. So they decide they need to have a good long chat about what’s happening, or not happening, between them.

Yes, folks. The Doc and Louisa have an actual date!
I know, I know... it can’t be that simple. And you’d be right. Again.

In the meantime, Pauline signs up to join the Portwenn Lifeboat crew and gets accepted. She succeeds at making Al jealous in the process thanks to a little flirting between her and the surfer that grew breasts (in the series Pilot), Ross. His breasts are gone now and Pauline is his next conquest thanks to her feminine wiles.

PC Mylow is getting a bit more serious with Julie, too. A few are a bit suspicious of her. But poor Mark just can’t see past her charm and, well, the sex.

The teacher finally shows up at the Doc’s surgery and informs him that yes, he was right, she does have severe OCD. Unfortunately, she chose that exact moment when the Doc is on his way out to meet Louisa at the bar for their date, err, conversation, and Tricia can’t leave the surgery until the half hour or hour (thanks to her OCD).

So there Louisa waits on the patio facing the sea... with a bottle of wine and two glasses. Waiting... and waiting... for Martin.
It won’t go to waste, though. Danny is there. Danny is always there.
And Louisa has decided that the wait for the Doc... is over.

What a week in Portwenn. Some people are getting together... and some people are just saying goodbye. I can almost hear Willie Nelson singing in the background, can’t you?

Doc fans... grab a listen to Always on My Mind....

"Aromatherapy" - Season 02, Episode 04

- by Karen Haviley

Interesting challenges for the Doc in this episode.

Caroline Bosman, Portwenn's radio personality, is having some trouble at work. People seem to think that she's been 'tipping the bottle' a little too much lately, even on the air. Everyone seems to want to give her advice but luckily PC Mylow's breathalyzer gives a hint to something much more serious.

Danny and Lousia seem to be getting a bit closer, too, much to the chagrin of the Doc. Louisa is beginning to feel like it might be time to let go of her feelings for the Doc and embrace a possible new love opportunity in Portwenn. And the Doc knows it.

There's also something brewing between PC Mark Mylow and the new Portwennian, Julie Mitchell. Or at least he's trying to get it brewing. However, there does seem to be something a bit off about her. Of course, Mark doesn't pay much attention - after all, it's an attractive woman that has come to ask him for help! How could he turn her down?

Then there's sweet Mr. Cooke (or is it Mr. Kirk? We obviously couldn't figure that out in this podcast). Sweet, ridiculously-stinky Mr. Cooke. The Doc tries everything to find the problem. Not until the end do we realize the bittersweet situation that cures Mr. Cooke from the stench.

We definitely had a good time on this podcast as you'll hear. It's full of all kinds of side notes that may or may not have anything to do with this episode. You won't hear it, but I even think at one point we stopped recording and started again... something about nuns and whether or not they "make them anymore".... oh that LindaG...

So we hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did.

Aromatherapy... it just makes you feel good saying it, doesn't it? Enjoy!
