- by LindaG and Karen

Rock the Doc Podcast is starting with the very first episode of Doc Martin, Going Bodmin

A rude and entertaining Dr. Martin Ellingham comes to the quiet Cornish town of Portwenn to be their new GP. In this first episode the good doc meets the people of the town that are going to give him and adventure just as much as he is going to show them what a real GP is.

  1. I plan on participating in your show whenever I can. So I hope you don’t mind that I went go back and made a few comments on past shows to get in sync.

I like the way Louisa’s concerns about the Doc’s bedside manner in Going Bodmin are confirmed when the Doc says, “Surgery is all about dealing with bodies, I mean people.” Her question also appears valid because of the way the Doc is casually standing there reading the newspaper outside the conference room. To me he appears smug, even arrogant, like the job is already in the bag and the interview is merely a formality. I like the fact that she had enough spunk to question his informal qualifications, too.

Doc Martin did seem to amused when he saw the VW caught in the tide. Did you guys hear that with the popularity of the show and all the new tourists, tons of people parked their vehicles on the beach at low tide and forgot all about them as they wondered around Port Issac? It got so bad that city officials finally said, “Enough is enough.” Folks are no longer allowed to park down there.

You may have learned this by now, but “sod off” does indeed mean what you thought. Sod is short for sodomize. So “sod off” is equivalent to our lovely American send off, hah! And Karen you were also right about “poppet.” It means “dear.” One other item I came across in my “research” is that British slang for breasts is “chesticles.” Is that a hoot, or what?
