"The Morning After (Movement)" - Season 03, Episode 02

- by Karen Haviley

In this episode we discover what idea Bert’s been mulling over these last few weeks: he’s opening a restaurant. Yes. That’s right. Bert’s opening a restaurant. That should help his depression. Or at the very least it should help him develop new medical ailments.

Pauline is heading off to her Phlebotomy course in Truro for a couple of days so her replacement, Poppy, is filling in. Things start off well with Poppy and the Doc which Pauline doesn’t see coming, so she gives her some advice to help secure her position upon her return.

A young girl is struggling with her teenage ‘physical development’ and comes to see the Doc for treatment (can you imagine?). His instincts are spot on and after initiating an innovative plan, her confidence is soaring.

Louisa invites the Doc over for dinner on the night of Bert’s grand opening. The Doc shows up, not with flowers or wine, but with a bag of yams. You know, to help her iron-poor blood since she’s anemic. I mean, c’mon, flowers die in a few days, right? And with yams you get..... nah, I’m not digging him out of that one.

The dinner doesn’t go as planned and they end up at Bert’s restaurant. The Doc makes a gruesome discovery in his salad and that ends that. Or so he thinks.

The town has come down with some kind of virus and everyone’s at the surgery the next day. The common denominator seems to be Bert’s restaurant. But not.. so.. fast, Dr. Ellingham.....

It’s another beautiful day in Portwenn! Don’t you wish your own town was so exciting on a daily basis?

Enjoy the ride, folks... we've got Movement.

TRIVIA QUESTION: (2 parts) What is the actor’s name that plays Mick Mabely AND what other show was he on with Martin Clunes?

  1. Oooo, oooo, I know this one: that would be Joseph Morgan, and he was on William & Mary, playing the boyfriend of Martin Clunes's daughter. Shazam!

  4. The teenager, Mandy Jordan, is sort of a feisty character, isn’t she? When he wouldn’t give her the birth control pills she wanted, did you hear her call Doc a “dickhead” on the way out?

Louisa is a pretty smart gal. She knows what’s going on in her own kitchen when it comes to the problems she’s having with the cooker. She must’ve told the doc about ten times that the cooker had a short in it and that it keeps tripping the fuse. He totally ignored everything she said and got his but shocked. They should’ve shown him knocked on his ass with Louisa standing over him telling him, “I told you there was a short in it. Why don’t you ever listen to me?!” Karen, have you noticed the way Linda is always taking up for the doc and I’m always taking up for Louisa? Hah!

But in the end, the niceness from Tick Tock carries over into this episode as well. Doc was so nice to help Mandy with her “problem.” With a little creativity, he gets her confidence back on track. When he’s being tender like that, we cheer for him to “get the girl” (Louisa) even more.

And you’re right, Linda, Bert reminds me a lot of a big, lovable Winnie the Pooh bear. Cheers! Love your show.

  5. I so did not catch that, Jeff. I went back to listen to it. It does sound like it but it also sounds like she calls him something else..? Can't quite make it out. But how funny is that?!
You guys may side with Louisa and the Doc, but I'm always defending Bert (& Al). I think each character needs someone on their side, am I right? ha!
Did you see on our Facebook page what Connie notes about Mandy and Poppy? Check it out if you haven't already.
These episodes are getting better and better.
We're so glad you're enjoying the show. We love doing it if you couldn't tell. :)
    Cheers!

    1. No, that's definitely what Mandy called him. It's in the subtitles! Yes, all the people in Portwenn need help of one kind or another.

I find myself wondering if I should post about the upcoming episode on Facebook, or should I wait until you guys do the podcast and post it on blogger.com? Does it matter much?

I definitely want to tell you about the theme I noticed ahead of time, if that's OK. I don't want to mess you guys up but maybe jumping the gun would give you some discussion ideas, too. What do you think?

  7. Hiya, here's Slow Biff again, still catching up.

Bert's taking "pud orders", not "pood". Pud, aka pudding, aka dessert.

What's this blogger.com thing Jeff mentioned? Do you two have a rock the doc blog going on there?
