"Do Not Disturb" - Season 04, Episode 07

- by Karen

The Doc finally receives his official contract in the mail for his new position from Imperial. We only know this because Pauline received the mail and steamed open the envelope to find out what it was. But no harm, no foul. She's concerned about her future position so the Doc gives her a recommendation, which doesn't exactly express what she thought it would. After getting too cheeky with the Doc, he fires her and as she contemplates what to do next while wading in the sea, she gets stung by a jellyfish and needs the Doc's aid. Remember folks, wee-ing on a jellyfish sting is a myth. So, yeah, that's all we're gonna say about that.

Edith is banging down the door again. She sees that Martin is still 'fondling his comfort blanket' and gets him to face his phobia head on. He succeeds, she feels proud, and she instructs him to meet her at the hotel for her conference. Things are moving fast now... at least in Edith's eyes. The Doc still seems clueless or actually oblivious. That is, until he arrives at the hotel to find that he and Edith are sharing a room. Thankfully there are plenty of things to distract him from her mild attempts to seduce him.

Aunt Joan has decided to open up a Bed and Breakfast for some extra cash and she quickly finds her first guest. He seems to have an issue with hygiene but she knows him and she needs a guinea pig. He's a bit pushy and ungrateful but that could be the fact that he's completely broke and won't be able to pay her for his stay. Or maybe it's his hairy gut. Or rather the hairy lump in his gut.

Bert decides a bridal shower is in order for Louisa. The town loves her and wants to show how much they care. They all seem to be pushing their husbands off on her, though - you know, since Martin is leaving for London and she must feel completely helpless without him. You'd think with all the Martin-bashing going on that she'd feel a bit vindicated, but she's feeling a bit defensive instead. Oh well, maybe it's just hormones. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

This week we've got Poindexter, re-gifted eyeball-less teddy bears, another kind of teddy with 'less spring' in it, bed bugs, meat-sliced fingers on the rocks, human hair balls, a sneezing cat, and Al ready to drop trou to save his lady. Ohhhh...they always leave us wanting more, don't they?

Enjoy Do Not Disturb...

"Midwife Crisis" - Season 04, Episode 06

- by Karen

Louisa has decided that she wants a midwife to help during the final weeks of her pregnancy. The Doc, of course, doesn't understand. Especially about why Louisa is refusing to follow his instructions concerning her current medical problem. The midwife definitely as issues concerning men and Louisa takes the bait at first. (Who can blame her - it feels good to tell the Doc where to go!) Not until she's in some pain from lack of antibiotics does she find her backbone and tell the midwife to take a hike. Annnd subsequently apologizes to the Doc.

The Doc is working hard to overcome his phobia. He's taking charge of the situation and is stitching up cuts, dipping his hands in blood, and drawing patients' blood. The great and powerful Oz (read: psychologist) sure has helped him find his courage again. But this proactive behavior by the Doc is making the surgery's phlebotomist feel quite insecure about her job.

Bert's got a new love interest. Sort of. Too bad she's married. With kids. She (and her husband) are feeling a little under the weather thanks to her recent culinary creations. But that doesn't stop her from falling under the spell of all 'commanding' men she comes in contact with. Including the Doc. Al's suspicious and warns good ol' Bert, but love is... as they say... blind.

We've got... London Calling, fresh roadkill, hearing test equipment from the 40s, massaging foot baths, jam thermometers being shoved in all the wrong places, and a little TMI about Louisa's medical problem. I'll just say it... those Portwennians sure know how to have a good time.

Enjoy Midwife Crisis...

"The Departed" - Season 04, Episode 05

- by Karen

The Doc is exploring his London contacts even further now. He travels to the hospital to speak with a colleague about his next steps. While traveling via train back to Portwenn, one of the local Portwennians, Mr. Selkirk, grabs a seat next to him and continues to (loudly) thank him for curing his impetigo. Of course he now has other ailments and so since the Doc is just sitting there, why not ask if he can examine him, right? As it happens, he's got other issues... since he dies on the train on the way home. Sitting next to the Doc.

Meanwhile, Louisa takes her students to visit Auntie Joan's farm and one of the children gets 'accidentally' locked in the chicken coop. Was Auntie Joan responsible? Yes. Was she standing in front of the door so he couldn't get out? Yes. Are his parents pissed off and ready to sue Auntie Joan? Yes.

Mrs. Selkirk has been instructed - by her late husband - to go to the surgery for examination. She doesn't know why, and the ghost of Mr. Selkirk isn't talking, so the Doc instructs her to get some rest. Later, he thinks he's figured it out: her hallucinations, in his eyes, are caused by the possibility of her suffering from a tick bite. If it weren't for the gate opening on its own and the bump in the rump from Sheila the goat... we all might agree.

More fainting, lack of hygiene, mis-matched shoes, visualization CDs, and exotic sushi... it's just another busy day in Portwenn.
Enjoy The Departed...

"Driving Mr. McLynn" - Season 04, Episode 04

- by Karen

Louisa has moved into Mr. Routledge's house and overexerts herself and feels faint. Auntie Joan gets the Doc over to check her out he informs her that she is in no condition to become the school's Headmistress again because she's, well.. pregnant. And, he says, most pregnant women who then become mothers haven't the mental or physical capacity to cope with life... or something to that effect.

In the meantime, she needs a lot of work done at the house and Al needs some fast cash so he agrees to help. Unfortunately, Al is unjustly accused (by the forever roaming local high school girls) that he and Louisa are having an affair. Pauline finds out and confronts Al, who informs her that he's not attracted to Louisa and it's a big misunderstanding. Of course not before they both inadvertently insult Louisa about her current size.

The McLynn's are visiting the Doc so they can acquire a special parking permit since Mr. McLynn is paralyzed. The Doc tries to examine Mr. McLynn to see if he really is disabled but his wife swoops him out of the office after the Doc accidentally stabs him with a neurological pin.

As the McLynn's are on their way home from the surgery, they run into Auntie Joan. Literally. Joan takes the blame for the car accident and so PC Penhale doesn't get to do his job. Again. Unfortunately, we find out that Joan is having financial issues and only took the blame to avoid a fine.

And dear Edith continues to spin her web around the Doc... and he has no idea it's happening. Lately, Porwenn's quirkiness is feeling more like a noose around his neck. It's getting very clear that if the Doc is feeling the push to move to London - she's the one doing the pushing.

Blind driving, Spanish tattoos, shirtless Al and the school board stickin' it to the Doc... get ready for a little Driving Mr. McLynn. Enjoy!
