Departure - Season 06, Episode 08

By Karen
Louisa is on the mend so she continues with her plans to leave for Spain with James. Saying goodbye to his wife--and especially his son--hits the Doc hard. Desperation sets in and he runs to Ruth for perspective. She lays it on the line for Martin and so he makes his own plans to leave for Spain to be with Louisa and James. While making airline reservations, though, he reviews Louisa's brain scan from the recent accident and sees something startling. Now it's a race to get to the airport to stop her from getting on her flight.

Martin's mother watches the whole scene of Louisa and James leaving in the taxi for the airport with sheer delight. She's after something and those two out of the way make her feel a bit powerful. After speaking with Ruth, Martin comes home for a quick discussion with his mother and promptly decides it's time for her to leave. Not seeing her forever isn't long enough.

Al's business pitch to Ruth doesn't go so well, but she senses some good bones about it so she tells him she'll look it over. After making a decision she heads over to the beach party Bert's throwing for the whole town. Thanks to faulty wiring, while spinning the tunes local shock-jock Caroline touches a mic that nearly kills her.

The Doc successfully gets Louisa off the flight (thanks to PC Penhale!) takes her to the closest hospital, and after careful consultation with the attending surgeon, performs the surgery himself. But what now? Words were exchanged before the surgery, but is it enough to save this marriage and family life together?

Will they find the answers they both need to make this work? Can Ruth and Al actually build a successful business together--and will Bert subconsciously sabotage their efforts? Does Bert have his happily ever after with Jenny? And will Clive finally come back to Portwenn for his Sal?

An annoying cough, tearful goodbyes, wicked mothering, "we don't need no stinkin' grounding", Y-M-C-A, and a little DIY-surgery.

They're a hearty bunch those Portwennians, aren't they? Must be the sea air. In any case, we can't wait to see where they'll be in Series 7...

Enjoy Departure...

Listen with Mother - Season 06, Episode 07

By Karen
Doc and Louisa can't get on the same page. No matter how hard they try. It's painful to watch the downward spiral of events and emotions. It also doesn't help that his mother is standing by watching (and enjoying) it all. Louisa reminds the Doc about helping at field day at school -- and he does attend -- but somewhere between the wheelbarrow races and the awards ceremony, all of their emotions come to a head in a most destructive way.

Ruth corners Margaret (the Doc's mother) while she's out for a walk with James and insists they have a coffee and chat. After all these years, there's a few things Ruth needs to get off her chest. Such as why Margaret's really in Portwenn, whether or not she killed her husband (Ruth's brother), and to really lay into her about what an awful parent she was to Martin. All in attempt to get her to leave town because she senses Margaret's presence is causing even more damage to the Doc. And she's right.

Mike tries for another date with Morwenna, but before he close the deal the MPs show up looking for him...you know, since he's AWOL. Al throws the police off the scent so Mike can make a break for it, but Penhale has other plans. He doesn't want to hand him over to the MPs but he's not letting him off the hook either. Luckily the Doc steps in to settle things down.

In the end, Louisa informs Martin that, as it's school break, she's taking James to Spain. Indefinitely. She wants a break...from him.

Beating a dead horse, a broken collar bone, the perfect sous chef, a desperate mother, close talkers, and breaking free from OCD (amongst other things)... it's like a train wreck, folks... you just can't look away!

Enjoy Listen with Mother...

Hazardous Exposure - Season 06, Episode 06

By Karen

Mrs. Tishell has received her release from the doctor so she no longer needs supervision. Which means she doesn't need to share her pharmacy practice with Jenny. But Bert makes a plea to keep Jenny in Portwenn. When one of his ideas doesn't work - he goes for the big one. And is pleasantly surprised.

A local contractor has a nasty cough and heavy lungs. After some questioning by the Doc he gets the idea that maybe it's the insulation he's installed in several houses in town. The Dream Team - Penhale, A. Large, aforementioned local contractor - gathers at the police station to investigate the claim. Penhale decides to staple a few posters (and his hand) to a couple of poles around town to warn residents and then calls in the HazMat team to confirm his suspicions of asbestos. They were so sure. Ah, well... maybe next time.

The Doc's mom shows up at his door. Wearing black. His father has died and she just wanted to 'stop by' to tell him in person. And to apologize for all the terrible things she's ever said and done to him. But something's off. Louisa knows it, the Doc knows it, James Henry knows it and hell, even Mike knows it. Her actions don't match her words. What to believe?

Awkward first dates, a new dry cleaning (and shoe shine) bill, pigeon poo disease, more voodoo medicine and lavender scented cats. They should have called in that HazMat team long ago... for oh-so-many reasons. I'm sure the Doc would agree.

Enjoy Hazardous Exposure...

The Practice Around the Corner - Season 06, Episode 05

By Karen

Today's the day: Mrs. Tishell returns to Portwenn. The Doc and Louisa are feeling anxious about her return and do their best not to show it. But Ruth offers to stop by the pharmacy to see if she's feeling well after her time in the psych/detox clinic. It's a good thing. She really seems to need a little minding now that she's back in the hood.

The new roommates, Al and Morwenna, are hot on the case to find new mates. They each set up a blind date, courtesy of CornishCouples.com, only to meet someone they least expected. It definitely changes current circumstances--and living arrangements. Doesn't help that Bert is making his own moves to find some lovin', leaving someone out in the cold.

PC Joe Penhale has decided it's time to up his game, and his career, so he heads out into the 'wilderness' to test his survival skills. Doesn't take long until shots are fired and he's headed home--in the back of a pickup truck and straight to the surgery for immediate care.

Snappy wristbands, medical grade moss, haunting phobias and The Odd Couple. It doesn't take long to find your place within Portwenn... even after rehab...or wilderness training...or blind dates.

Enjoy The Practice Around the Corner...

Nobody Likes Me - Season 06, Episode 04

By Karen

The Doc gets roped in to taking James to the library for story hour. It's to help make James less like the... well, more sociable than certain people. It's a disaster for the Doc, sitting around with moms singing songs and communicating with each other. Possibly his worst nightmare. But hey, it was great for those of us watching.

Meanwhile the new pharmacist is hiding something. We only know this because Bert walks in on her while she's in the bathroom holding a needle. Nothing that a little eye patch won't cover, though. I think maybe they should re-think their pharmacist screening process in Portwenn. But where's the fun in that, right?

Ruth is moving into her new digs in downtown Portwenn with Al's help. While Al contemplates finding himself a lady, Ruth's new neighbor let's her know he's not up for company or being bothered at any time. Until he needs rescuing, of course.

Kitchen table sanitation, CornishCouples.com, Hollywood habits, cataracts for babies and medical tats for young-at-heart ladies. Who needs fancy-pants London? Portwenn's got what you need!

Enjoy Nobody Likes Me...

The Tameness of a Wolf - Season 06 Episode 03

By Karen

Someone's washed ashore at Portwenn and the two fisherman who find him rush him to the surgery. He seems to know the Doc and is asking a lot of questions during his examination about his family who live in the house. The Doc is focused on other things so the inquisition goes right over his head.

The pharmacy is opening back up with a familiar face - familiar to Bert, that is. It appears they know each other intimately from many years ago. So with his new B&B and all, he rolls out the welcome wagon... and a little 'welcome to Portwenn' flirting never hurt anyone.
It's Aunt Ruth's birthday and to start the day off she continues her work on Radio Portwenn, but she gets a mysterious call while on air. When she heads back to the farmhouse she gets the strange feeling she's not alone. And she's right. Not to worry... Penhale's on the case. Needless to say, it's time to move.

Building blocks that don't belong, libel/slander (take your pick), sexually eclectic stalkers, a steaming hot bath for two and birthday cake for one.

Take some time to understand The Tameness of a Wolf... Enjoy!

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner - Season 06 Episode 02

By Karen

Finding someone to watch James Henry is proving to be more complicated than they'd like. Louisa seems to have finally found someone to lend a hand, but it doesn't take long for her to walk. After all, she's working inside the house-surgery... with the Doc... all. day. long. Luckily our new local, Mike, steps in - in all his OCD glory - which doesn't seem to set well with the new Mrs. Ellingham.

While at the school concert, the Doc tries to help with Louisa's schmoozing and invites her colleague to dinner. A colleague responsible for funneling bonus money to school programs. Unfortunately, the Doc is the Doc and the dinner goes to hell via Louisa and the baby monitor.

New roommates, Dr. Ruth on the line, compliments galore, and invisible sliding glass doors. You know...it's all fun and games until someone gets yeast growing in their skin folds. Wash up and get ready... they've got company!

Enjoy Guess Who's Coming to Dinner!

Sickness and Health, Season 06 Episode 01

By Karen

Well, they're back!

And from the title (and photo) you can guess what's up. Doc and Louisa finally get hitched and the town throws a celebration of epic proportions... with many uninvited guests, of course. Things just move downhill quickly from there. What would be a honeymoon without severed arteries and drama, right?

Meanwhile, back at the surgery Aunt Ruth is babysitting James Henry for the night when the electricity goes out and Large, Inc. show up to help. Oh yeah, and PC Penhale. You can see where this is going. Luckily the new guy in town with a background in 'Special Forces,' and just a touch of OCD, shows up and saves the day.

Lady parts, a sober vicar, shotgun weddings, and the new sex-on-a-stick local fella... wherever they take us, we're goin'!

Enjoy Sickness and Health...

P.S. Yes, we realize that the instrument used during genealogical gynecological exams that's like a pipe wrench is actually called a speculum... not forceps. We looked it up. Don't judge.

"Ever After" - Season 05, Episode 08

- by Karen

Mrs. Tishell's husband, Clive, returns. His hearing is still pretty good but now he's got other health issues. And he wants to retire and runaway with Sally to some rather exotic places. In a camper. Not far from Portwenn. She's not ready to give up the business... or the Doc. But none of that matters because thanks to a prescription cocktail -- she's feeling freer than ever. Oh yeah, and delusional.

Everyone at the school is sick, including the cook, so what's the Portwenn school to do?
Call Bert Large, of course! Even though he doesn't follow any of the school's nutrition guidelines, he's happy to lend a hand. Lucky for Bert -- and Al who's come to help his pop -- like American kids, these children would much rather have chips as their lunch anyway. As far as Bert's concerned, it's a win-win.

A young, newly married couple is spending some time in Portwenn on their honeymoon. She's suffering with a serious rash on her chin but they're so in love it doesn't matter the cause. Their affectionate ways make the Doc feel ill, but their passion for each other and a passing comment turns out to be just the thing the Doc needs in the end.

And then the story takes an interesting turn...
Mrs. Tishell offers to help the Doc by watching James Henry. But when the Doc goes to pick him up at the pharmacy, Sally has closed up shop for the day. She split with the baby and is nowhere to be found. Together Doc, Louisa, Aunt Ruth and PC Penhale hunt her down. It's a sensitive situation considering she's having a psychotic episode. Nothing left to do but profess his love to her. Indirectly - but he at least he gets the job done.

Martin finally gets to say what he's been holding back for so long. Louisa finally gets to hear what she's been wanting to hear for so long. And Mrs. Tishell is headed for a little drug rehab.

At the end of Season 5 they're all getting a fresh start.

In our final episode we'll enjoy trying new positions, a secret rendezvous, news clipping shrines, a blinded cop, and lazy babies getting waited on hand and foot.

Ever After is just getting started... we can only imagine what Season 6 will bring.
Enjoy!

"Cats and Sharks" - Season 05, Episode 07

- by Karen

Well, Bert's in deep. He borrowed money from the loan shark and owes 1000 quid, plus interest, and he has no way to pay it. Al finds out what's been going on indirectly and wants nothing to do with it. Except when Aunt Ruth hands him an envelope with £800 for some fence work that needs to be done at the farm. He'll have to work it out somehow - either with the sharks... or Aunt Ruth. Bert and Al want to stand up 'like men' to these thugs to avoid paying. But maybe they need some backup in case these men don't like them... you know... acting like men. Enter PC Penhale.

Local philanthropist, Mrs. Dingle, is having some problems with the Portwenn Cat Sanctuary. Like Bert, she's in the red and borrowing money from the local sharks. Her problem however is not so much the money but the fact that she keeps falling down. Because she uses her bicycle to get around, you can see how this is a problem.

Louisa's mother, Eleanor, is subcontracting her babysitting duties with one of the local girls who's wearing an ankle monitor attached by the local police. She has her reasons: she's busy helping Bert try to raise some extra money for the restaurant. Eleanor suggests a Spanish theme night and it's a big hit with the locals. Unfortunately...

...just before the event, Eleanor is feeling under the weather. So much so that her illness actually requires emergency surgery performed by the Doc... with assistance from Morwenna...who's feeling confident and offers to stitch Eleanor back up if the Doc will talk her through it.

The Doc and Louisa are still living apart and he's planning to leave the following week for London leaving Louisa and James in Portwenn. It's clear he's torn, but he's also too stubborn to admit it. And the tension continues to build. There's only one episode left - will he stay or will he go?

But something very peculiar is happening with Mrs. Tishell. She's a bit more bold with the Doc lately and she's not quite herself...

This week we get to enjoy bumps popping out of everywhere: hives, fleas and hernias; local tapas and cheap sangria; and an increase in testosterone for several male residents - if only for a moment.

Enjoy Portwenn's game of Cats and Sharks...

"Don't Let Go" - Season 05, Episode 06

- by Karen

This is a rough one. The people of Portwenn just aren't gettin' along.

PC Penhale's ex-wife, Maggie, is still in town. Her memory has returned which means she's ready to leave Portwenn, but Joe isn't ready to let her go. Strangely enough, she's conflicted about leaving, too. He decides he has to try to prove to her he's a changed man - stronger and more forceful - so she'll stick around. And if he didn't have to pay people to help him prove he's a bolder man, it may have just worked.

Louisa's having a tough time at school. The students and teachers are back from holidays and the kids are more unruly than normal. On top of that, the school's caretaker is acting strange and being forgetful. So forgetful, in fact, he ends up on the roof unable to climb down. Luckily the Doc swoops in to save the day. He has to...PC Penhale, we learn, is a afraid of heights. The Doc also knows just how to handle these folks. It's a bit physical, but seems to work often enough.

The Doc and Louisa are at it again. They can't seem to agree on anything. The Doc makes arrangements for James without Louisa's involvement for the last time. She learns that he's already scheduled the Christening without telling her and that's the last straw. She realizes she has no idea how any of this is going to work and leaves with James Henry. The Doc is trying to pretend he's not affected by this latest blow-up, but it's hard to escape the ticking of the clock.

Awaiting you this week is tongue-licking, more face slapping, kill zones, a shortcut to Bert's, the new tea-painting effect, cracked masks soaked in wine, and finger sharpening.
Jump in and Don't Let Go....  Enjoy!

"Remember Me" - Season 05, Episode 05

- by Karen

PC Penhale's ex-wife, Maggie, visits Portwenn. It's not what you think ~ unless you think she comes back with a case of amnesia and thinks she's still married to Joe. Then you'd be right. It's difficult for Joe because he still loves her and he's torn between keeping her to himself for a day or getting her some medical help. Love will do that to ya. Well, if you're PC Penhale, anyway. Hard to hide a person in love with PC in Portwenn so getting medical help prevails.

The baby's name is now up for serious discussion - because they have only a few days to decide. Louisa wants James; the Doc want's Henry. Hmm.. which will he choose? That's right, the Doc makes the final decision. Just like he made the final decision for the paint color in their new London apartment. Louisa can't decide whether to be happy he took the initiative or be angry that... he took the initiative. He doesn't seem to understand that Louisa wants some say in matters dealing with their new family. He'll learn fast enough. All men do, right?

Meanwhile, Al and Aunt Ruth seem to be getting closer - or at least Al is feeling comfortable enough to share some issues he's having with his dad. Bert is dancing around the idea of borrowing money from a loan shark. He doesn't want Al to think he can't run the restaurant on his own, but bills need to be paid and the bank is calling. He tried to sell off a few things but to no avail. In the end, Bert takes the bait so get ready for a bumpy ride.

This episode brings us more fainting, a (almost) police house-quickie (if the station is a rockin'...), a titillating chess match (who knew?!), a serious case of acute generitis, and, of course, Boris.

Enjoy Remember Me...
